Time for Chow Chow!
The name Chow Chow for the Taiwanese/Chinese eatery found in Post Office Square’s Hawker Lane, is a play on words which speaks to the quirkiness of owner James Kao.
James called the store Chow Chow because it is Australian slang for eating a meal, as in ‘chow down. “We realise that Chow Chow is also a breed of dog, so some customers may question why our logo is a cat.”
“We chose a cat because I own two cats that I love very much and who have been important companions to me in Australia. So, I wanted to include them in the logo in some way which is why we have a happy cat.”
James has notched up a long career in the food business having worked for more than 30 years in his family’s restaurant in Taiwan before he made the move to Australia.
“I am excited to be bringing the flavours of Taiwan to the people of Brisbane,” he continued. “While our food is heavily influenced by Taiwanese flavours, spices and ingredients, we also have a lot of the most popular Chinese favourites on our menu.
“We are a brand new business and are excited by the excellent location at Post Office Square.
