Post Office Square’s popular Hawker Lane has a vibrant new addition
Post Office Square’s popular Hawker Lane has a vibrant new addition – a wonderful inspired mural bursting with vivid blues and reds, by Brisbane artist James Alley.
You can check out the making of the mural HERE, an impressive 2.3 x 6 metre, spanning much of the walls adjacent to Hawker Lane which connects with the lifts to the office towers.
The subjects of the mural are enormous bright red Lotus flowers and a stunning elongated blue Crane, adding a gorgeous splash of colour to the space.
James is a graduate of The Queensland College of Art with a Bachelor of Design and worked as Art Director with iconic surf and lifestyle clothing and swimwear brand, Billabong for six years.
He has exhibited in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and London.
“I mostly paint figurative works,” James explains of his subject choices. “I’m interested in exploring all kinds of themes but often get inspiration from looking at culture and society.”
Hawker Lane was inspired by the open-air street-food eateries found across Asia and conceived by Post Office Square’s owners, developers and designers to bring something new to Brisbane’s CBD, as part of a multi-million dollar revitalisation of the food and retail precinct.
The space was designed by Clui Design which had been given a brief to create “a space which will become a melting pot of diverse Asian cuisine served in a lively atmosphere unique to Brisbane’s CBD”.
Hawker Lane now offers a range of Asian street-food and cuisines including Vietnamese (Bake N Grill), Taiwanese/Chinese (Chow Chow) and Japanese (Mr Curry) food.
Hawker Lane in Post Office Square is open Monday to Friday.
